Goa in Monsoon: Travel Experience

Goa! What is the first thought that comes to your mind when you hear this word? Possibly a picture of beaches, watersports, serene greenery, crazy nightlife. Goa is all this and a lot more. I had been to this place only once earlier, back when I was in school in 8th grade and our school took students for a Bombay to Goa trip. Most things that I remember of that trip is what fun we friends had in the bus, making mustache on the face of roommates while they were sleeping, clicking pictures in front of Taj Hotel, a little bit of frolicking in the sea. That’s all! No stark memory of how the place was, what was my experience while roaming there, what all was I observing. To revive those lovely memories it was time to relook this state and that’s what me and both my elder sisters alongwith each of our’s family did, travelling to Goa as the monsoon hits it.

The hills here are green, the sea is a mix of murky and green, the air is salty, the lifestyle has a chill vibe, and all the other stereotypes we have heard of this place are more or less true. But I now fondly remember this place for the spread of Red in this place. As you look towards a densely green hill or a lake side, there will be waving at you a patch of bright and radiating red flowers of Gulmohar. These add such a sparkling space in the monochromatic view, that you cannot help but get mesmerized. And once you are done with seeing the Red on the sky, you are soon caught by the red soil that surrounds you. So apart from the spread of green which this place offers, I will fondly remember the monsoons of Goa with its red sand, red flowers.

The other thing for which I was literally taken aback is the immensely good quality of roads in Goa. The geotechnical engineer within me couldn’t hold back it’s horses on seeing the roads. It rains so heavily in this place, yet the roads are absolutely brilliant. The cable stayed bridges, the exuberant lights on the cables, and the smooth roads. It was all infrastructurally so beautiful.

And yes, the last observation is what every tourist must have observed, that it’s a party hub yet the place is so safe. People can walk till late nights, sit in restaurants for long hours with not a cinch of worry. Unfortunately it is also such a privilege particularly to feel safe while being carefree. For once the rules apply same on the boys and the girls!

Overall it was a great time. All 9 of us had so much fun, so much of sea food, so many discussions, and eventually made so many memories. Grateful I am to have such people in my life and the ability to enjoy such moments. Cheers to many more to come!

  3. Aguada Fort played a pivotal role in safeguarding the Portuguese interests in the region. Its strategic location, at the confluence of the Mandovi River and the Arabian Sea, made it an ideal outpost for defense and control over the bustling maritime activities. The name “Aguada” itself has maritime origins, derived from the Portuguese word for waterβ€”’Γ‘gua.’ This nomenclature is apt, given the freshwater spring within the fort that provided sailors with a reliable source of potable water during their arduous sea voyages.
